Biofactories in Russia nearly double vaccine production for dogs and cats

The supply of veterinary medicines in Russia remains stable, and the industry is prepared for the peak vaccination season. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, as reported by the Veterinary and Life publication, factories in Russia are actively replacing imported products. As of March 24, 2026, 4.3 million doses of domestic vaccines against infectious diseases have entered circulation.

The regulator identified five main production sites supplying the market: Vetbiokhim, FGBU VNIIZZh, Kursk Biofactory, Biocenter, and Shchelkovo Biocombinat. Rosselkhoznadzor states that enterprises under the Ministry of Agriculture ship medicines as scheduled, and regional state veterinary services are fully stocked with necessary vaccines. The industry reports significant production growth: Vetbiokhim increased rabies vaccine sales 2.4 times to 1.5 million doses in the first quarter of 2026.

Segment development followed systemic support measures. Previously, a project supporting domestic vaccine production was launched, offering preferential loans and subsidies for veterinary medicine manufacturers. The program aims to stimulate high-tech solution development and expand factory production capacities. This support proved effective, as vaccines and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines became the primary drivers of veterinary medicine retail growth last year. Record sales dynamics for domestic immunobiological products in 2025 established the foundation for stability during the 2026 season.

Rosselkhoznadzor reports that foreign companies also maintain their market presence. Since 2025, the Czech company Bioveta supplied over 2 million doses of Biocan and Biofel vaccines, while Zoetis imported approximately 1.5 million doses of Vanguard and Felocell veterinary medicines. The regulator emphasizes that sales occur through standard distribution channels. According to the Center for Veterinary Medicine hotline, no pet vaccine shortages have been recorded so far in 2026.
