Demand for Veterinary Medicines Increased in Russia as Online Sales Gained Share

Russia’s retail veterinary medicines market expanded in both value and unit terms in the first quarter of 2026. According to RNC Pharma, sales reached 71 million minimum dosage units, up 15% year-on-year. In value terms, the market grew by 15.6% and exceeded ₽13 billion.

March accounted for the highest quarterly sales volume, with more than 29 million minimum dosage units sold for over ₽6.8 billion. Compared with March 2025, sales increased by 26.3% in value and by 21.2% in minimum dosage units.

The online channel continued to strengthen its position. In the first quarter of 2026, it accounted for 33.5% of market value and 29.4% of unit sales. A year earlier, these shares were below 30% and 21.9%, respectively. In March, during the seasonal demand peak, online sales exceeded 37% of market value.

The market remains geographically concentrated. Moscow, the Moscow Region and Krasnodar Territory together generated more than 31% of total spending on veterinary medicines, with Moscow accounting for around 15%. The Republic of Kalmykia recorded the strongest growth, with sales in both value and minimum dosage units increasing threefold. Among major regions, the fastest growth was recorded in Stavropol Territory, up 24.5%, and Rostov Region, up 23.3%.

Demand is led by ectoparasite medicines and vaccines. In value terms, Zoetis’ Simparica ranked first with more than 10% of the market, followed by Bravecto at 5.4% and Tixfly at 4.9%. In unit terms, Tixfly outperformed Bravecto, with 290,700 minimum dosage units sold during the quarter compared with 254,400.
