Pet food production in Russia continued to rise in 2025, with growth recorded in both wet and dry formats. Data from feedlot.ru show steady expansion in both segments compared with 2017.
In the wet pet food segment, the average annual growth rate for 2017–2025 was 9%. Output increased from 375.5 thousand tonnes in 2017 to 741.9 thousand tonnes in 2025. This is a 98% increase versus 2017 and a 5% year-on-year rise compared with 2024.
In 2025, wet pet food production was split as follows: 91.8% animal-based products, 0.01% plant-based products, and 8.2% other categories.
In December 2025, production of animal-based wet pet food totaled 62.6 thousand tonnes, up 6.7% from the previous month, an increase of 3.9 thousand tonnes. Plant-based wet pet food reached 5.2 tonnes, 24.1% above November levels, up by 1 tonne. Output in other wet pet food categories came to 5.6 thousand tonnes, rising 3.6% month-on-month, or 197 tonnes.
The dry pet food segment showed even stronger dynamics. Over 2017–2025, the average annual growth rate was 13%. Production increased from 335 thousand tonnes in 2017 to 893.8 thousand tonnes in 2025. This represents a 167% rise versus 2017 and a 13% increase compared with 2024.
In 2025, dry pet food production consisted of 73.2% animal-based products, 6.3% plant-based products, and 20.5% other types of formulations.
In December 2025, output of animal-based dry pet food totaled 59.9 thousand tonnes, up 8.1% from November, an increase of 4.5 thousand tonnes. Plant-based dry pet food production reached 5 thousand tonnes, 9% higher than the previous month. Output of other dry pet food categories stood at 16.6 thousand tonnes, up 1% month-on-month.
