According to Rosstat’s report, 128,000 pet food tons were produced in September 2024. This represents an 8% increase compared to September 2023. Over the first three quarters of 2024, pet food production increased by 9%, as noted in the report.
In December, Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor), informed journalists that Russian pet food producers are ramping up production. Additionally, according to Dankvert, efforts are underway to manufacture pet food types of previously unavailable in the country.
“We are seeing significant pet food domestically production growth. This follows a series of organizational and technological inspections in other countries, ensuring transparency in ingredient composition. While imports have generally decreased, imported products remain available for those who seek them. The ministry’s policy, which I believe is correct, aims to promote domestic production while reducing imports. This approach is being implemented step by step,” Dankvert shared.
