Prices for prepared pet food in Russia began to decline in early 2026 following a sharp increase during the winter months. According to SoyaNews, citing data from the Unified Interdepartmental Statistical Information System (EMISS), the average price in April reached ₽184,000 ($2,557) per tonne, down 4.4% from March.

Despite the monthly decline, prices remain above last year’s level. Compared with April 2025, prepared pet food for companion animals was 2.3% more expensive. However, compared with the beginning of 2026, the average price has decreased by 2.6%.

Data compiled by SoyaNews shows that the highest price during the period under review, from January 2024 onward, was recorded in February 2026, when prices reached ₽199,400 ($2,771) per tonne. The lowest level was observed in January 2024 at ₽131,300 ($1,825) per tonne.

Recent market movements indicate a correction after rapid growth at the start of the year. The average price increased from ₽189,000 ($2,627) per tonne in January 2026 to a record ₽199,400 ($2,771) in February, then fell to ₽192,500 ($2,675), in March and ₽184,000 ($2,557) in April.

Regional price differences remain significant. In April, the Central Federal District recorded the highest average price at ₽204,600 ($2,844) per tonne. The Northwestern Federal District reported the lowest level at ₽127,500 ($1,772) per tonne.

A similar trend was already visible in March. The average price stood at ₽192,500 ($2,675) per tonne, 3.5% below the February peak but still 9.4% higher than a year earlier. Retail prices also remained elevated. According to Check Index, in 2025 average retail prices increased by 15% for dog food, reaching ₽240 ($3.34) per kilogram, while cat food prices also rose by 15% to ₽321 ($4.46) per kilogram.
