Pet food production in Russia continued to expand during the first four months of 2026, reflecting sustained growth in the country’s manufacturing sector. According to SoyaNews, citing preliminary data from the Unified Interdepartmental Statistical Information System (EMISS), manufacturers produced 605,700 tonnes of pet food between January and April, an increase of 9.8% compared with the same period last year.
Production reached 150,400 tonnes in April. While this represented a 6% decline from March—when output hit the highest monthly level recorded since January 2024—it was still 14.3% higher than in April 2025. Monthly production totaled 147,200 tonnes in January, 148,100 tonnes in February and peaked at 160,000 tonnes in March.
The latest figures continue a multi-year upward trend. During the first four months of 2025, production reached 551,600 tonnes, compared with 502,900 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2024. The lowest monthly output over the past two years was recorded in January 2024 at 116,500 tonnes.
The increase comes amid broader expansion of the pet food industry in Russia. According to the Center for Research in Perspective Technologies (CRPT), national pet food production has grown by 57% over the past four years, rising from around 1 million tonnes in 2021 to 1.7 million tonnes in 2025.
Export performance has also strengthened. In the first quarter of 2026, exports of dog and cat food to Kazakhstan nearly doubled to $16 million, up from $8.7 million a year earlier, making producers from Russia the country’s largest suppliers in this product category.
At the same time, pricing trends suggest the market is stabilizing after rapid increases earlier in the year. According to EMISS data previously reported by Zooinform, the average wholesale price of pet food declined to ₽184,000 per tonne in April, 4.4% below the March level, although still 2.3% higher than a year earlier.
For the full year 2025, pet food production in Russia totaled 1.689 million tonnes, compared with 1.558 million tonnes in 2024.
