According to a global survey by GlobalPETS and Loop, pet owners in the United States remain the world’s largest buyers of pet toys. In 2024, 28% of US respondents spent $100 (€85.05) or more on these products, and in 2025 every fifth owner reached the same spending level. Canada ranks second: 23% of Canadian pet owners spent more than $100 last year, and this year every eighth reported similar spending.
The survey shows that pet owners in Brazil spend the least globally: in 2024, 48% limited their spending to under $25 (€21.27), and in 2025 this share increased to 50%. In the United Kingdom, 44% of owners spent less than $25 in 2024 and 51% in 2025; in Mexico the figures were 36% and 45% respectively.
Consumer habits also differ by country. On average, pet owners in the US and Canada purchase toys for their pets more than six times a year, while in Brazil, France, and Mexico they make two to three purchases annually. In 2024, more than 20% of Brazilian pet owners and 18% of US pet owners did not buy any pet toys at all.
In Russia, according to Zoomonitor data, trends in the dog toy and cat toy segments diverge. Demand for dog toys rose sharply in 2020–2021, reaching its peak in January 2022 (around 72,000 monthly searches), followed by a gradual decline. By the end of 2024, demand had fallen by 8% year-on-year, and a further decrease of 7–14% is expected in 2025.
The cat toy segment demonstrates stronger stability. Between 2020 and 2023, interest grew by 18.7%, particularly in the standard and interactive categories (+3.7% and +9.6%). In 2025, demand for teaser toys and tunnels decreased by 4.7%. Monthly search volumes range from 36,000 to 49,000 at peak periods and 19,000 to 22,000 during summer months.
