«The Russian pet products market continues to impress with its dynamic sales growth, adaptability to changes, and ability to seize emerging opportunities for development. In 2024, the primary driver of market growth was dog and cat food, which accounted for approximately 80% of the total pet product sales value.»

Throughout the year, there was robust growth in the pet food production. In October, manufacturers set a record by producing 138.4 thousand pet food tons, and the year concluded with a total 1.5 million ton production volume. This represented a 10% increase in physical terms, reflecting rising demand in the pet food market, where preference is now given to Russian brands and locally manufactured products.

The pet industry in Russia in 2024
The growth in pet industry sales can largely be attributed to the humanization process, where people increasingly view their pets as family members, children, or companions. This has led to the adoption of many human lifestyle aspects for pets. As a result, owners strive to provide their pets with the best products they consider essential for themselves, such as organic or vegetarian food, functional products, or eco-friendly pet supplies.

The pet population is also growing. 68 mln Russians owned dogs or cats in 2023. The total pet number in the country was 74.8 mln, including 49.2 mln cats and 25.5 mln dogs. Russia ranks third globally in the number of cats and fourth in the number of dogs.
